Heartwarming ‘Carpool Karaoke’ videos raise awareness and funds for Alzheimers charity

Taking inspiration from James Corden’s now infamous Carpool Karaoke series, 80 year old Alzheimers sufferer Teddy McDermott and his son Simon have filmed their own videos of the same ilk – and raised over £75,000 for charity in doing so!

Teddy has been a singer all of his life, and is a former Butlins Red Coat. Known as the ‘Songaminute Man’ in the heyday of his career, his son, a digital marketer for another charity, decided to start filming his songs to raise funds.

Since being diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2013, Teddy has unfortunately struggled with his memory, and so doesn’t always remember his favourite songs. He’s also suffered with aggressive episodes, and the McDermott family have sought help from the Alzheimer’s Society and their National Dementia Helpline.

Simon said “My dad’s always been a singer, the only thing different is I’m recording it and putting it on Facebook. He’s singing right now. When we’ve got him singing again he’s back in the room. It’s these moments that we treasure”.
