Time to start car-sharing – train fares rise three times faster than wages

Over the last five years rail fares have rocketed three times faster than the average wage increase, campaigners said yesterday.

A study by Action for Rail shows ticket prices have risen 200 per cent over the past 20 years. Britons pay the highest fares in Europe with many commuters paying out more than twice as much of their salary on rail travel as passengers in France, Germany, Spain and Italy.

The study showed that season tickets and other regulated fares have increased by 25 per cent over the past five years alone, while average pay went up just nine per cent.

With an average commuter SAVING £967 per year through car-sharing, isn’t it time your business invested in a scheme?
