Introducing the Burns Festival: celebrating Scotland’s poet in style

Liftshare continues its look at the best UK festivals with a literary turn. We’re moving away from music fests at for a moment to bring you the Burns ‘an ‘a That, Festival, which is an entire weekend dedicated to Scotland’s poetic genius Robert Burns.

This 14th annual tribute will be held in Rozelle Park in Ayr (May 2-3), and best of all, it’s absolutely free for anyone who wants to take a picnic and enjoy the sunshine while listening to some great Burns performances and music inspired by Rabbie’s work.

Revellers can expect to see the tale of Tam O’Shanter told in vivid imagery in the gallery at Rozelle House, listen to inspiring acoustic music in the cow-themed ‘A Coo Stick’ tent, or even make a custom Burns poetry booklet, and they’ll also be invited to try their hand at archery if they’re feeling adventurous enough.

As you can see, the band and artist line-up is looking great, with headliners Sandi Thom and Big Country primed to give fans a fitting send off at the end of each day.

Music aside, there is a wealth of educational, artistic and fun events for attendees of all ages to try. It’s a wonderful and creative event held in a colourful location in Scotland.

We’ll have more on Burns ‘an ‘a That news ahead of the big weekend. The festival is currently recommending Liftshare for anyone who wants to avoid expensive train fares and travel with other revellers on the day. You’ll save a great deal by splitting petrol fees together, and have fun on the road. Thanks to our free iOS and Android apps, finding that perfect lift is even easier.
