Southern Rail recommends Liftshare as alternative travel provider during strike disruption

Liftshare has been recommended by Southern Rail as an alternative form of transport during strikes and ongoing disruption affecting their services.

Southern Rail services have been subject to numerous interruptions due to ongoing disputes with rail workers’ unions ASLEF and the RMT. Workers from both unions will strike next week on 10th, 11th, and 13th January, and then on 24th, 25th, and 27th January; causing massive disruption to rail routes across the South of England. Despite this industrial action being cut from six days to three, unions insist they are not backing down, and continue to threaten future action.

Many commuters who rely on the train to get to work will be forced to travel by car. To help their passengers and to combat the road congestion and parking issues that this could cause, Southern Rail are recommending sharing car journeys through Liftshare.com.

Liftshare is the UK’s largest car sharing community, with over 500,000 members currently offering or requesting a lift. The site is free to use; and a sustainable and cheap travel option for most. Liftshare’s system calculates a journey price within legal limits for petrol contributions, so that car insurance remains unaffected.

Liftshare’s Founder and MD, Ali Clabburn, said of the recommendation: “Liftshare always sees a surge in usage during periods of disruption. Lots of people try liftsharing for the first time during service interruptions, and it’s great to see how many of them enjoy it so much they keep doing it.”
