Your week in Liftsharing – Oct 6 edition

Happy Monday Liftsharers!

Well it’s official – the weather is getting colder out there and the rain is coming in thick and fast. But fear not, because there’s a bumper week of big events up and down the UK for you to look forward to in this week’s guide.

We also thought we’d give you a heads up on the fourth annual International Ridesharing Day, which takes place October 26. This celebration of sharing and cost-effective travel originates from Sweden, but is gaining a following beyond those borders. There’s fun, festivities and more.

Monday: Manchester Literature Festival

October 6-25, various venues across Manchester

From Monday, Manchester enters a long and inspirational season of literary excellence and inspiring events that closes with the Northern Lights Writer’s Conference on October 25. The schedule includes panels focused on both novels and illustrated works, such as an evening with acclaimed graphic novelists Stephen Collins and Nick Hayes on October 7. Wordsmiths take note: this festival is one for your diary.

Tuesday: The Restaurant Show

October 6-8, Earl’s Court, London

Calling all restaurateurs, café owners and foodies – The Restaurant Show returns to Earl’s Court to give you a chance to sample some exceptional culinary delights, food suppliers and the finest wines. Each day of the event is filled with exhibitions, live cooking demonstrations, and speaker sessions from big names in the business. If you’ve got an appetite for good food, this show will leave you stuffed.

Wednesday: Dragonforce

British power metal ambassadors Dragonforce take to Nottingham to make the city’s ears ring with their blend of fret-melting riffs and audacious speed. Touring their latest album Maximum Overload, the band continue to impress with their complex tracks and incredible levels of skill. Expect to hear big new singles “The Game” and “Defenders” on the night.

Thursday: England vs San Marino

October 9, Wembley Stadium, London @ 20:00

England take on San Marino at Wembley following a victory against Switzerland in September. All eyes are on manager Roy Hodgson following news of Daniel Sturridge and Ross Barkley’s injuries, and fans will be watching with keen interest to see who he replaces them with on the big night.

Friday: Still Game Live

Jack and Victor return in Still Game: Live, the stage adaptation of Gregor Hemphill and Ford Kiernan’s critically-acclaimed comedy sitcom. The hell-raising codgers are joined by their usual cast of elderly misfits and troublemakers in what promises to be an evening of hilarity and gaffes.

Saturday: Rock Diabetes Festival

October 11 & 12, Trowbridge Civic Centre, Trowbridge

Double D Promotions presents two days of head-banging rock and metal in the name of charity. The gig will raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which is working towards finding a cure to type 1 diabetes and improving the lives of those affected. Head along and rock out in the name of helping others.

Sunday: BTCC Brands Hatch GP – Final Round

October 11 & 12, Blenheim Palace Woodstock @ 08:00

Racing fans won’t want to miss the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season finale at Brands Hatch. The two-day racing event will see season rivals Colin Turkington and Jason Plato clash for a place at top of the podium. Attendees will see 31 touring cars rip up the Grand Prix circuit during the final event, along with a schedule of other race tournaments, track walk sessions and much more.
