Well, if this isn’t a reason to get yourself registered on Liftshare, we don’t know what is!
A report called On The Move, focussing on creating a more mobile workforce, makes a number of suggestions and recommendations to the Government on travel for employees to and from their workplaces. It reads “Making it easier for people to commute twenty minutes further would put them in touch with at least one major urban area and potentially 10,000 more job opportunities”.
Of course, this is huge news, and is something liftsharing can directly affect, as we already have thousands of commuters listing their journeys and looking for journeys into and out of urban areas for work purposes. The report found that councils without a major employment area raised their employment rate to ‘above average’ when commuters increased their journey time by 20 minutes.
The report suggested offering tax benefits to commuters who use journey-sharing schemes like Liftshare and to offer free parking in city centres for car-sharing.
Damian Hind, author of the report, said: “Reducing the costs associated with longer commutes is one of the best ways to boost employment and wages”.
And, of course, employment options can come from less obvious interactions. Our liftsharer Stuart recently shared a trip with Louise, and is keeping in touch with her in the hope of hiring her for his company once she graduates!
