Liftshare Group partners with Octopus Electric Vehicles to support UK employers reduce commuter emissions

One of the biggest barriers to the adoption of electric vehicles is the perceived cost – which is why affordability is going to be crucial for a transition to EVs.

Our mission to make Zero Carbon Commuting a reality has led us to proudly partner with electric vehicle leasing specialists, Octopus EV, a sister company of renewable energy provider Octopus Energy. This partnership is designed to make electric vehicle leasing more affordable for businesses and individuals to reduce the environmental impact of commuter emissions.

Octopus EV, who are not tied to a manufacturer, are able to offer employers a range of electric vehicles for use in their business fleets and salary sacrifice schemes, including Tesla, BMW, Nissan, Jaguar, Renault and Volkswagen.

Octopus EV recently launched Electric Dreams, a salary sacrifice scheme for electric cars which can save drivers 30-60% on monthly car costs, with Octopus’s first clients saving more than £10,000 over a 3-year term, while also making them feel good about doing right by the planet. Starting from £250 in net pay reduction, the all-encompassing scheme also includes insurance, servicing, maintenance, repairs, roadside assistance & recovery.

Natalia Peralta Silverstone, Head of Propositions at Octopus Electric Vehicles, said ‘Decarbonising commuter emissions is one of the biggest challenges we face, and as millions begin to head back to the office post-lockdown, we have a unique opportunity to permanently shift to more sustainable forms of transport. Partnering with the Liftshare Group was an easy decision’.

As part of this partnership, Octopus EV will also promote Liftshare Group’s newest innovation, the Mobilityways Platform. The Platform, which was developed in lockdown to support employers to ‘commute back better’ as they return to the office, provides a suite of software tools that enables employers to evidence, track, plan and change their commuter emissions.

Ali Clabburn, CEO of Liftshare Group , said “This partnership with Octopus EV is a perfect fit for our environmentally conscious customer base. We work with 700 of the UK’s biggest employers and these organisations are critical to supporting our mission to make Zero Carbon Commuting a reality. In return, we’re dedicated to helping our clients achieve their net zero goals through the use of our Liftsharing and Mobilityways platforms. Promoting a transition to electric vehicles will make an even greater impact on emissions reduction.”

As a Zero Carbon Commuting mode, electric vehicles would drastically reduce an organisation’s ACEL (Average Commuting Emissions Level). A full switch to electric cars would save 12% from the total carbon emissions emitting 42 million tonnes less CO₂ into the atmosphere each year.

Categorised as Scope 3 emissions, commuting emissions account for 5% of the UK’s total emissions – 18 billion kg of CO2e annually. Often overlooked, commuting emissions are increasingly under the spotlight following organisations setting ambitious net zero targets. These targets cannot be met unless commuting emissions are addressed, particularly with many employers planning their return to the office. How is your organisation tackling commuter emissions?
